Good afternoon Parents and Guardians,

This is a long one! Reminders, contest winners and some save the dates! First reminder is that there is no school tomorrow!

Enrollment survey – As shared earlier this week, if your child will NOT be returning to Hillhurst in the fall and/or you are currently unsure, please complete a very quick survey. If your child is in Gr 6, this survey does not apply to you.

Principal survey – In follow up to Garry Tink’s visit at the School Council meeting, please find the principal survey here.  Your feedback is important as he generates the posting and hires a new principal.  The survey is anonymous and will be open until tomorrow, April 19, 2024.

  • Evan & Justus received Honorable Mention
  • Damien & Henry received Honorable Mention

  • Elliot & Parker won gold and the Melody Becker Memorial Science Award

Speed Turn Elementary Math Contest (STEMC 2024) award winners - Congratulations to the following student winners:

Grade 1 & 6 Vaccinations - Alberta Health Services Public Health Nurses will be at the school Monday, April 22 to immunize Grade 6 students. ONLY students whose parent/guardian has provided consent will receive these vaccinations. We recommend students wear a short sleeve shirt on the day of immunization for ease of access. Any student absent on Monday, April 22 will be offered immunization at the next possible date a Public Health Nurse can come to the school. In the event that we are unable to return this school year, outstanding immunizations will be completed next school year.

If your child is anxious about upcoming immunizations, we encourage parents/guardians to visit CARD for Parents | immunizecanada for tips on how to improve the vaccination experience.  If your child has had any changes to their health status or if you have questions regarding vaccines or giving consent, please call the school's Public Health Nurse at 403-944-7523. Please note that Covid-19 and Influenza vaccines are not offered through the school immunization program. Only routine childhood immunizations with signed consents will be provided.

Volunteer Week (April 14-20, 2024)

During volunteer week, the Calgary Board of Education extends our gratitude to all the incredible volunteers who dedicate their time, skills and passion to supporting students and schools. Volunteers are the heartbeat of school communities and help to enrich learning opportunities for students. Your contributions, whether big or small, make difference to students and staff and help to support to the overall success of our system.

We sincerely thank all those who volunteer their time and energy for students, staff and schools. Learn more about being a volunteer with the CBE. At Hillhurst, we will be extending our heartfelt thank you on Thursday, June 6 at our annual volunteer tea. SAVE THE DATE!

Briar Hill School’s Annual Book Sale

Visit Briar Hill School to shop for gently used books priced from $1-4 from Wed, April 24th – Friday, April 26th (9am – 7pm Wed & Thurs, 9am – 2pm on Friday).

Cell Phone Policy

On the heels of the system’s cell phone usage policy sent to parents today, I wanted to let you know that at Hillhurst School, students are not allowed to use their cell phones during school hours. From 8:45am – 3:20pm they are to live in backpacks. If a student ‘forgets’ this rule, then their cell phone lives on my desk until the end of the day.

Safety Reminders

Even though this week's snow was PERFECT for snow forts, snowmen and snowballs, let’s hope that was the last week I had to remind students that while at school, snow needs to stay on the ground. If there is a ‘next time’ for said perfect snow, feel free to remind your child of this if they are of the snow throwing type.
